Sony a7II – Night One

black and white photography - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

One of the reasons I wanted a full frame camera was their ability to shoot in low light situations versus their crop sensor counterparts.  Not that the modern crop sensors aren’t great, but the full frame sensors have size on their side.  The a6000 and a7ii both shoot at 24mp, but the noise on the a7ii is noticeably less because the extra space of the sensor allows the pixels to “breath”. When you cram a bunch of pixels in a small space there will be more noise per capita because there are more pixels per capita.  Or at least that’s what people who know more about cameras than I do say.

After seeing my brother at the HBG Flea I decided to hang out with my dad a bit.  It just so happened that he was watching the Penn State vs. Wisconsin game, a fact I mention to add context to the above photo only, I’m not a big football fan, college or otherwise.  Regardless I realize it is a small sacrifice to make to spend time with my pops.  The older I get the more I realize spending time with the people who open up and freely share their reality with you is worth more than anything.  On a tangential note, it is the reason why I love still photography as much as I do.  I love how the medium places so much emphasis on a single defined moment.  It reminds me that all we really have is right now.

After watching the game with my dad I headed down to a friend’s house and proceeded to just shoot.  I was looking for anything and everything to shoot.  I was shooting the inside of the truck.  I was shooting the dashboard to watch the streetlights turn into bubbles of bokeh.  I really just want to get familiar with the camera and the only way I know how to do that is to just shoot.
